There's no time to get bored on an active holiday in Montenegro! Whether you love adventure, find beaches a bore, or just want to stay in shape and have fun, the staggering beauty and variety of outdoor activities in this tiny country will give you a holiday to remember.

7 nights are spent at Lake Skadar National Park, immersed in wild natural beauty as you hike to natural springs, caves and fishing villages, plunge into waterfalls, kayak along carpets of waterlilies and taste some of the finest red and white wines from Montenegro's Napa Valley! Your accommodation is the beautiful Villa Miela, a restored farmhouse just outside picturesque little Virpazar, the lake's main access point, and just a 30 minute drive to the Adriatic sea. This leg of the holiday is self-catering apart from your welcome dinner on the first night.

The other 3-7 nights take in Montenegro's incredible and mountainous North - and it's not just the duration that's flexible (we offer programs lasting 3, 4 and 7 nights). You can choose between staying at traditional ethno-villages and mountain huts, or if you prefer, you can splash out and choose our luxury package instead. All transport and meals are included for this leg of your holiday, as well as a 24/7 qualified guide who will collect you from Villa Miela and bring you back to Podgorica Airport at the end of your trip.

A sample itinerary for the 10 day trip, running Sunday-Wednesday is below. Wednesday-Sunday and Sunday-Sunday are the other options. Trips available any time between May-September.

Your Guide:
Vuk is a man of many talents - radio show host, voice-over artist and committed eco-phile, he is one of the very few locally qualified kayak guides in Montenegro. His passion for the outdoors also extends to his origins in the north of Montenegro, where he helps to run our tours in Durmitor National Park. Vuk speaks excellent English and of course Serbian/Montenegrin.

Proposed Itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival
Arrival at Lake Skadar and check in to Villa Miela. Group welcome dinner in the evening.

Day 2 - Explore & Discovery
An unforgettable car and hiking combination tour (walking time is 3 hours). We drive past breathtaking views, hike to rock-pools for wild swimming, visit bat-inhabited caves before lunching at a former royal residence in historic Rijeka Crnojevića. We jump back in the 4x4 for more stunning views, wild river swimming and then head across a magnificent plain that would not look out of place in Africa. The breathtaking view from the ancient fort of Žabljak Crnojevića is our final stop before returning to Virpazar.

Day 3 - Kayaking to the island monasteries
This 4-5 hour kayaking trip will take you across Lake Skadar's stunning mirrored waters from Murići on the southern shores, home to the lake's best freshwater beach and with views up to the fabled peaks of Albania's Accursed Mountains. You'll have the lake all to yourself as you swim in crystal clear waters and visit 14th century island monastaries, still inhabited today, all the while taking in the awesome views.

Day 4 - free day
Free day to spend as you wish. There are so many great options, from kicking back and relaxing in the hot tub at Villa Miela, to taking the bicycles out to explore the valley below, heading to one of the stunning beaches on the nearby Adriatic coast or even visiting UNESCO protected Kotor…

Day 5 - The wines of Lake Skadar Valley
Our local area just happens to be Montenegro's wine-country. Renowned throughout the Balkans for the smooth red vranac grape, the tradition of wine-making has existed here for centuries. Enjoy tastings and the warmest of welcomes at two boutique wineries we have specially selected for their excellent wines and friendly hospitality, with up to 8 different wines to try. Transport, translation and a meat/cheese platter is included, but you pay the vintners for the tasting direct. Bottles can also be purchased at extra cost.

Day 6 - Waterfall hike in walnut Valley
Our favourite hike - this circular trail passes through ancient woodland, across arched Ottoman bridges and along riverside trails and old Roman caravan paths as it winds its way through one of Lake Skadar's most beautiful valleys. We stop for wild swimming in natural spring-fed pools before hiking to a beautiful hillside village for lunch with a local family. This is unspoiled and undisturbed nature, with wild figs, herbs and tortoises in abundance! Best of all, you won't have to share them with other tourists; this is our secret!

Day 7 - free day

Day 8 - Transfer to Durmitor and white-water rafting!
Check out early from Villa Miela to go white water rafting on the Tara river! The Tara Canyon is the deepest in the whole of Europe (second deepest in the world, just after Grand Canyon in Colorado) - the highest point above the canyon floor is 1,331 metres over your head! Because of its beauty, clear water and unspoiled nature, the Tara Canyon deservedly boasts UNESCO World Natural Heritage status. The grade 3-5 rapids (depending on the season) are suitable for almost anyone aged 9 and older and will provide you with a thrill you won't forget in a hurry! Tour duration: 2-3 hours. Please note that groups of fewer than 6 should expect to join another rafting group.

Day 9 - Hiking in Durmitor National Park
Today we enjoy a photo-safari and hiking through the Piva Plateau and UNESCO-protected Durmitor National Park, one of the most attractive landscapes in Montenegro. Here you can admire the beauty of Piva Lake from above, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the fabulous pastures of Trsa and Pižce. Lunch is at a local household, after which there is an additional short hike around Crno Jezero. Hiking time is 6-7 hours.

Day 10 - Mountain Eyes hike
Škrčka Lakes (Big Škrčko and Small Škrčko Lake) are situated in the middle of Durmitor Mountain. These are two of 18 mountain lakes (called "mountain eyes") in Durmitor. Surrounded by impressive peaks (Bobotovkuk - 2,532 m - the highest peak of Durmitor is just above) they look like real oases for all tired hikers and explorers. The start of the route is in Dobri Do valley and it climbs through lower parts of the mountain (between Prutaš and Bobotov Kuk) to a point almost 2000m above sea level. The second half of the walk descends to the 1,200m high valley containing the mesmerising lakes. Trip length: 10km. Grade: moderate.

Day 11 - return to Podgorica
