TRAINS

If you want to keep your carbon footprint to a minimum, you could always take the train to Belgrade and then enjoy one of Europe’s most dramatic journeys over the mountains to Virpazar. That final stretch takes 9 hours; how you get to Belgrade is of course up to you. Seat61 is a good place to plan your journey.

AUTOMOBILES
We recommend that you get to Montenegro as quickly as possible! Of course, you’ll also want to see some beauty on the way, so keen drivers should head through Croatia to the bustling Dalmatian town of Split. From there, you simply drive down the Adriatic coast to Dubrovnik, head across the Montenegrin border to the magnificent Kotor fjord, whiz past the coastal resorts of Budva and Sveti Stefan and when you reach Petrovac, take the mountain road left towards Lake Skadar. You’ll have some incredible views and the whole journey once you leave Split should not take more than 7-8 hours. Have a look at Michelin Map or contact us for more precise directions.

FERRIES
Montenegro Lines sail from Bari and Ancona in Italy to the port of Bar five times a week. Bar is just 30 minutes from Lake Skadar by car.

PICK-UP & DROP-OFF

Undiscovered Montenegro offers a pick-up and drop-off service for arrivals into Tivat, Podgorica and Bar. Unfortunately at this time we are unable to offer this service to customers flying into Dubrovnik. If you are flying into Dubrovnik, we recommend HM Car Hire  as the best way to continue your journey to Lake Skadar. Just remember to ask for the green insurance card, without which you cannot cross the border!
